HERDA is the online desk — in English, Portuguese and French — helping emigrant heirs monitor, unlock and sell inherited property in Portugal, without boarding a plane.
Check my situation → How it worksThree steps, all remote, with independent partner lawyers for the legal acts.
Automatic alerts if your estate appears in the courts (Citius), auctions (e-leilões) or the official gazette — before opposition deadlines expire.
A clear report on who inherits what, missing documents, and full coordination (heir certification, apostilled powers of attorney) at transparent rates.
A friendly market-price sale during the negotiation window — or exercise of your opposition and buy-back rights if you'd rather keep the house.

WAITLISTNo. It was published in the official gazette on 17/08/2026 (Law no. 49/2026), but it is an enabling law: the implementing decrees are still missing (the government has 180 days to issue them). The operational regime is expected in 2027 — and right now is when organised families get ahead.
Any heir (even a minority one), the surviving spouse, or an executor with partition powers, 2 years after the succession opened. A 6-month (+2) negotiation window follows before any electronic auction.
Not without consent: the family home of the surviving spouse (or surviving de-facto partner) is excluded from forced sale, except with express consent. It's one of the final text's protections.
That's the problem: notices to absent heirs are published in Portugal. If you live in France, Switzerland or the USA you'll almost never see them — yet the deadlines (short, to be set by the implementing decrees) run anyway. HERDA's Vigia exists precisely for this.
No, never. HERDA provides information, monitoring and document coordination. All legal acts (heir certification, powers of attorney, proceedings) are performed by independent lawyers and solicitadores, paid directly by you at rates known in advance.
